Smart Ventilation: making the airflow visible
Connecting a ventilation controller to Home Assistant, then building an interface that makes its behaviour easier to understand.
Why this project exists
Smart Ventilation brings an otherwise not so smart ventilation system into Home Assistant through an ESPHome gateway and a dedicated dashboard card. The aim is to make temperatures, fan outputs and heat recovery easier to inspect in one place.
From the controller to Home Assistant
The ESPHome integration was developed for a NIBE GV-HR 120-400 with an Optima 251 controller and a Waveshare ESP32-S3-RS485-CAN gateway. It communicates over Modbus RS-485 and exposes entities through ESPHome’s encrypted native API.
An interface for the air
The separate Airflow Card uses Home Assistant entities to show outdoor, supply, extract and exhaust temperatures alongside fan output and recovery or bypass state.
